Abel, 62, was born in Edmonton, Canada, but has lived in Iowa for many years. He was among approximately two dozen new citizens from 16 different countries who took part in an annual naturalization ceremony hosted by the Iowa Cubs, the Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, at their Des Moines ballpark.
